Auckland Libraries continues to strengthen community connection across Tāmaki Makaurau through cultural partnership, inclusive spaces, and innovative services that support learning, belonging, and wellbeing for all whānau.
Auckland Libraries has focused this year on strengthening community connection, cultural partnership, and access across Tāmaki Makaurau. Throughout local elections, libraries supported democratic participation through voting services, enrolment support, and accessible civic information. He Kupenga Horopounamu, an NZLPP funded project, is reshaping how we work with whānau, co-designing a Māori service delivery model and kaimahi capability framework grounded in lived experience and wellbeing. Pride month saw dozens of inclusive events, reinforcing our commitment that libraries are places of safety, acceptance, and belonging for all communities. Our new regional team, Whānau Learning | Te Ako ā-Whānau, has delivered the Literacy Plan 2025–2028, setting a regional vision for early, lifelong, and digital literacy and aiming to increase access by 15% through cross-sector partnerships. |
Our publishing programme continues to elevate local stories, with notable successes including Rere Atu Taku Poi, Toitū Ngā Marae, and new titles in the Stories of Our Lives adult literacy series. The We Read Auckland festival also marked its third year with strong community engagement.
Operational improvements including IMMS optimisation, improved shelving accuracy, and new floating “Exhibitions” are supporting smarter logistics. Meanwhile, our new regional board game collection has quickly become one of our most popular offerings. Auckland Libraries continues to innovate through cultural partnership, storytelling, and community-led design creating welcoming spaces where whānau aspirations can flourish. |
