Arapaki | Manners Library | Tour Leader - Belinda Davis

Like the ornamental lattice-work between carvings on the walls of whare nui, that it is named after, Arapaki Manners Library is a place of connection.  Arapaki are unique because it takes two artists working together to complete each one.
Ten weeks after the Central Library closed we opened our doors, connecting people to the downtown library experience they’d been missing.  The Wellington City Council Service Centre operates from Arapaki, and our teams have become increasingly connected since opening in May 2019.  Arapaki is small and perfectly formed but don’t let our size fool you, we punch above our weight in memberships, issues and visitor stats.
We offer connection to collections, space and people, from the dash and grabbers to the “I’ve got all day” time spenders.  Our friendly, knowledgeable team were the first in our library system to test a roving customer service model.  They are found throughout the library, where the people are. You can expect a warm greeting when you visit.

He Matapihi | Molesworth Library | Tour Leader - Karl Tilley

Wellington’s coolest little library branch is located at 70 Molesworth Street, with a collection and services tailored to complement the immense taonga housed by the Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa National Library of New Zealand.  It’s also the closest branch to the Railway Station transport hub so it’s convenient for workers to drop in to pick up a reserve.

Library staff are on hand to answer questions, join up new members, or deliver programmes, many in collaboration with the National Library.  As well as NZ, Māori, and Pacific books, it offers customers magazines, access to digital content, and inviting spaces with free WiFi, public PCs, printing/scanning facilities and seating.

Te Awe | Brandon Street Library | Tour Leader - Jane Brooker

Opened in May 2020, Te Awe Library is the third “pop-up” library in Wellington City Libraries’ CBD offering after the closure of the Central Library.  Located in the historic Harbour City Centre Building, Te Awe Library is spread over two floors with a café and dedicated event space.  Named after the white feathers or plumes that are added to taonga as embellishment, Te Awe is the largest of the CBD libraries and offers a diverse range of services to our central community.

Our team follow a roving staffing pattern so you’ll find their friendly faces against the library shelves. We’re excited to be opened and are looking forward to learning who our community are!

Johnsonville Library at Waitohi Hub | Tour Leader - Justin Hoenke

Opened in December 2019 and located in Wellington’s quickly growing Northern suburbs, the Waitohi Community Hub houses the Johnsonville Library, Keith Spry Pool, Common Ground Café, Whānau Manaaki kindergarten, and the Johnsonville Community Centre.

Waitohi is the place to be – a place people love, a magnet for the northern suburbs.  A place that people come to for events, a swim, to get a book, meet friends, get advice, drop their kids off at the kindy, attend classes, get a great coffee, and relax.  A place for everything – a place for everyone.

At Waitohi, people make connections.  Waitohi is the community’s “third” place, connecting them to people, activities, learning and open space.
