Paula Penfold
PLNZ Forum Delegates' Dinner guest speaker

"I believe journalism’s role is to give voice to those who couldn’t otherwise have one; to hold the powerful to account. I believe in that old journalistic idiom of comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable.” – Paula Penfold.
2019 NZ Television Reporter of the Year, Paula is best-known for her documentary series into the wrongful conviction of Auckland man Teina Pora for murder and rape.  Over three decades, Paula worked across radio, television, digital and print, reporting from all over New Zealand and the world. As a reporter for TV3 on 60 Minutes, 3rd Degree, and 3D, investigative journalist Paula Penfold covered some of the country’s biggest stories. After the cancellation of 3D in late 2015, Penfold joined Fairfax Media, alongside her 3D colleagues Eugene Bingham and Toby Longbottom.  Her career highlights have included Stuff Circuit's landmark project The Valley; the chilling documentary Infinite Evil In, in which post the Christchurch attacks, she investigated the “darkest reaches of the internet” and online odium. Her current project goes personal for an investigation into abortion law reform.  Paula's work and that of Stuff Circuit has been recognised by awards judges in New Zealand and internationally.
