Far North |
Far North Libraries are buzzing with momentum, from the Kaikohe Library and Civic Hub build well underway to vibrant author events and new bilingual summer reading programmes supporting connection and joy across the rohe.
Our Northland libraries whānau are all busy and well (if a bit tired after another epic year!) In the past few months all Northland libraries have enjoyed and benefitted from the digi coach programme and would happily take up the opportunity again if possible. Far North Libraries now have a bilingual name! He Pūna Marama, Far North District Libraries has been officially unveiled and is in active use with updates to signage planned. Kaipara Libraries have added new bilingual signage at their Dargaville & Mangawhai Libraries. | In the Far North, the new Kaikohe Library and Civic Hub build is well and truly underway with foundations now poured and structural steel framing expected to be completed by end Jan 2026 – it’s all go! Whangarei had an amazing turn-out when Tame Iti visited for a book launch and author talk in November. The large crowd included classes from the local Intermediate who sang waiata after the talk while people queued up to get their books signed. Summer reading programmes are about to launch. Whangarei is excited to be offering a trading card scheme again based on last year’s success. Far North Libraries are excited to be rolling out their first ever bilingual summer reading programme. Merry Christmas! |
